This year, the Bulgarian ski resorts expect foreign tourists coming predominantly from the border countries – Greece, Macedonia and Romania and this trend remains the same as the previous years. Tourists from Turkey also show interest in our winter destinations. Mainly Russian and British tourists prefer Bulgaria as a spot to spend their winter holidays.
Sales of Christmas and New Year covers for hotels and restaurants have already begun. This relates not just to the ski resorts but also to the balneo, SPA and wellness complexes in the country. The best offers are expected to be over until mid-November.
250 000 Bulgarians travel abroad during the winter tourist season on average.
The main destinations are related to cultural tourism concerning member-countries of the EU and the exotic trips are undertaken predominantly to warm destinations.
Tour operators and hotel-keepers also anticipate a far more successful upcoming winter season than the previous one. Bayko Baykov, chairman of the Tour Operators and Travel Agents Association, told local media that the winter tourist season was expected to keep and even exceed its level compared to the previous year.
The early bookings have already begun with a more steady growth than usual and regarding key markets. The winter resorts are prepared to welcome tourists even in bad weather conditions like they were last winter. Prices of services in the ski resorts are not expected to grow.
