Bulgaria: Divine Nature and Cultural Richness. The impressions of a British expact
18.12.2013
This article describes the impressions of an English man named Robert Nurnden who bought a house in Bulgaria in 2005. As the country prepared for joining the EU, he spontaneously decided to follow the example of a large number of British and Irish families that have chosen to buy cheap properties in Bulgaria. He bought a rural house located in Varna region. He is an English teacher who lived in the village for two years.
The first thing he noticed was the calm life style of the local population. Something, he has never seen before. Nurnden even asserts that Bulgarian people have actually taught him how to relax and enjoy life. This lack of dynamics seemed so nice to him. He loved spending calm or even lazy days and he had time to read his favourite books without hurry. In the evenings, he gathered with his friends on the terrace roof and drank high-quality wine with intrinsically Bulgarian taste.
He highlights the fact that the Bulgarian food has perfect quality and everything is organic and natural. Nurnden compares the rural lifestyle with the way western Europe used to be more than 100 years ago. The local people are passionate, talkative and they definitely know how to slow down for a moment and just relax!
Robert Nurnden is really astonished that the calendar is abundant in various feasts he has never heard of before. Among them was Baba Marta (feasting the beginning of the spring on March 1). He later decided to go back to England but he already knew how important it is to share precious moments with friends and family and just to have fun. Up until now, he keeps visiting Bulgaria.
