Branimir Botev, the Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Economy informs that Bulgaria holds the fourth position in Europe in terms of winter tourism. Last winter, our country was visited by over 1 million tourists which amounts to a growth of 8,2%. These trends are strongly believed to continue during the 2013-2014 season.
The summer season turned out to be successful for Bulgaria due to the fact that 3,5 million tourists have come here within the period of June-August 2013. Most of the tourists who came in Bulgaria are from Russia, Germany Ukraine, Greece and the United Kingdom. Most preferred tourism destinations are our lovely and popular sea resorts such as the city of Varna, Burgas, Golden Sands, Pomorie, Nessebar, Chernomorets, Ahtopol etc. All of the above mentioned sea resorts offer great holiday possibilities and attract millions of foreign tourists every year. Other preferred destinations are our winter mountain resorts such as Bansko, Pamporovo, Borovets and many others that are located very close to mountains and combine all the conveniences for ski holidays, traditional restaurants, high-class hotels and luxury residences.
Towns and cities with historical significance that combine ancient landscapes with the urban dynamics pertain to Bulgaria’s top visited touristic sites and they are also desired destinations for foreign tourists, recent data reveal. Such towns that have impressive monuments and fortresses are Veliko Turnovo, Plovdiv, Belogradchik and many others.
Bulgaria was visited by 140 000 British tourists in the summer of 2013.
The Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Economy told local media that British tourists like the possibilities for alternative tourism in Bulgaria together with Bulgarian traditional food and quality wine. These are factors that make our country a tourism destination all-year-round.
Leading British journalists have recently been impressed by Bulgarian wine variety by attending a wine tasting fair where typical wines were presented among which the popular Karlovo Muscat, Rubin, Mavrud, Dimyat.
Steady tourism development is an irrefutable fact concerning Bulgaria. Tourism experts remain optimistic and expect more and more tourists from various countries all-year-round!
