Exhibition aiming at actual preservation of protected areas in Bulgaria
02.09.2014
20 canvases showing pictures of various protected areas in Bulgaria and Europe as a part of the ‘’Natura 2000 – the best of Bulgarian and European Nature’’ exhibition organized by the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation will be presented from 1 to 16 September on the wall between the ‘’Morsko kazino’’ Culture Center close to the ‘’Ohlyuva’’ scene in the Burgas Sea Garden.
This is an attempt to present the true European ecological network ‘’Natura 2000’’ and more specifically, its breathtaking views, impressive rock formations and lakes, amazing plants and animals, organizers explain. The main idea of this exhibition is not only presenting the unique beauty of the protected areas but also to actually preserve these areas.
In the exhibition are included some of the most vulnerable areas that are objects of overbuilding and inappropriate investment interest. They have repeatedly caused mass protests and enormous public attention – the areas Irakli, Kara Dere, Kamchiyski Pyassatsi, Pirin, Strandzha and many others. Dangers that impend over the protected areas and species in Bulgaria such as poaching, overbuilding, illegal hunting, have also been enumerated in the exhibition.
The exhibition also presents the potential of the ‘’Natura 2000’’ network in terms of the sites for regional development and guaranteeing benefits for the local population. Good examples such as the Greek ‘’Kerkini’’ National Park and Finnland are also taken into account which show how the proper management of protected zones looks like and that it could lead to considerable incomes from eco and photo tourism.
