Feasts in the Rose Valley 2014

The beautiful Bulgarian town of Kazanlak is located in the central part of the country. The region is so illustrious and it is famous for the rose oil extraction and the oil-producing rose that are referred to as national symbols. The town attracts many tourists from the country and from abroad due to its beautiful nature and to the rich variety of tourist attractions such as the Rose Feast. It is organized every year in honour of the Bulgarian precious oil-producing rose. It is also regarded as the feast of the towns of Karlovo and Strelcha in the region.
The Rose Feast was celebrated for the first time in 1903 and it traditionally takes place during the first weekend of June up until now. In 2014 the 111-th anniversary of the feast will be celebrated in the town. This is the period during which the tender roses begin to blossom and one can feel this amazing scent all around! Today, the Rose Feast has turned into an international celebration that attracts so many guests.
The Rose Queen Contest is one of the most exciting parts of the feast programme. Other traditional rituals include rose-gathering in the region, a number of performances, concerts, presentations of anime films, folklore festivals and many sports and cultural activities. To the diversity of the feast programme pertain also: a children’s contest Mini Miss Rose, a parade and cycling in a rough mountain terrain. 20 beautiful girls from secondary schools will take part in the contest. The one who becomes the Rose Queen, will have the possibility to visit Japan.
